Muling nagkaroon ng tensiyon sa pagitan ng depensa at prosekusyon sa kalagitnaan ng cross examination sa testigong si Xylene Mae Del Campo mula sa Commission on Audit (COA) sa ika-15 araw ng impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte ngayong Miyerkules, Agosto 12.
Pinuna ni Prosecution counsel Atty. Lorna Kapunan ang aniya’y pagpapatigil ni Defense counsel Atty. Kristine Ferrer habang nagsasalita pa lamang ang testigo.
Inireklamo naman ng depensa ang hindi direktang pagsagot ng testigo sa kaniyang mga katanungan ng “yes or no.” Iginiit din niyang may pagkakataon ang prosecution counsel na magtanong ng clarificatory questions sa redirect examination.
‘I’m on cross , your honor, please,” saad ni Atty. Ferrer.
Subalit sagot ni Kapunan: “Never mind if you are in cross. There are limits to cross examination. Misleading quesions are not allowed to cross..”
Dito na namagitan si Presiding Officer Francis Escudero dahil sa aniya’y tila “generational divide” ng defense at prosecution counsel.
Bahagyang humupa naman ang tensiyon sa Impeachment Court nang sabihin ni Atty. Ferrer na mataas ang respeto niya kay Atty. Kapunan. Bagay na tinugunan naman ng private prosecutor na: “Let’s end here..It might sound like a eulogy, your honor, I’m still very much alive.”
