Ka-bombo! There’s a saying that it takes two to tango. This same principle applies to marriage.
However, this doesn’t seem to apply to a shark in the United States, who gave birth without a partner?
Officials from an aquarium in Louisiana are currently investigating how a baby swell shark was born despite having no male shark in the tank for three years.
The husbandry team members of Shreveport Aquarium noticed an egg in the swell shark’s tank about eight months ago.
According to officials, only two female sharks were in the tank, and neither had encountered a male in the past three years.
The baby shark, born on January 3, was named Yoko.
There are two possible explanations for this unusual occurrence: parthenogenesis or delayed fertilization.
A DNA test will be conducted on Yoko to determine which of these theories is true.
